What this generator makes
Hex grids provide six neighboring directions and are useful for maps, movement planning, and modular layouts. This generator draws a pointy-width vector hex pattern sized for your selected paper.
How to create your page
- 1
Choose the paper size and orientation for the map area.
- 2
Set the hex radius, margins, line color, and stroke width.
- 3
Download a PDF to print or an SVG to place below digital artwork.
Practical examples
Tabletop map notes
Use 7–10 mm hexes for compact map planning and 15–20 mm hexes for tokens or larger annotations.
Pattern and layout studies
A light SVG grid can be imported as a construction layer for modular diagrams or repeating compositions.
How the hex size setting works
The spacing control represents the distance from the center of a hexagon to one corner. Increasing it creates larger cells and fewer columns. The generated cells keep equal side lengths and are clipped only by the chosen page margin.
This is blank planning paper, not a rules system. Movement distance, terrain, and scale depend on the game or project using the grid.
Frequently asked questions
What does the hex spacing value measure?
It is the center-to-corner radius of each regular hexagon, which is also the length of one side.
Can I add map artwork in this tool?
No. The tool intentionally creates blank grid paper. Download SVG to combine the grid with artwork in a vector or layout application.
Are the hexes regular?
Yes. The pattern uses regular six-sided polygons with equal side lengths.
